Without interlining, the tie is soft and light in the hand. The silk falls freely and the knot is full without being stiff.
Both ends are hand rolled rather than tipped, so the tie is silk through and through, front and back. The thickness comes from the silk itself: a seven fold in printed madder is lighter than a three fold in woven grenadine, the thickest tie in the collection.
A soft tie asks for a simple knot. The four-in-hand gives a narrow, slightly asymmetrical knot that suits the seven fold well; the half Windsor gives a fuller, symmetrical knot without adding bulk. Pinch the blade under the knot as you tighten it, and the dimple forms.
