Silk bow ties

A silk bow tie by Dare in Paris is cut and sewn by hand in our Paris workshop, holder of the Fabriqué à Paris label. Every bow is pre-tied and adjustable: it is formed and sewn once and for all, and an adjustable neckband closes behind the shirt collar. Silk satin, piqué silk, woven silk and printed silk, in three shapes, from the black of a dinner jacket to the printed silks of a wedding. Worn by men and women alike.

The art of the silk bow tie

A silk bow tie handmade in Paris

Each Dare in Paris silk bow tie is traced, cut and sewn by hand in our Paris workshop, holder of the Fabriqué à Paris label, the official Made in Paris label. Silk satin, piqué silk, woven silk or printed silk: every piece is assembled one at a time.

A bow tie made to hold its shape through an entire evening and to be worn again, season after season. It leaves the workshop in its box, sealed with the house’s wax seal, with a handwritten note.

Pre-tied and adjustable: the same bow every evening

Every Dare in Paris bow tie is a pre-tied bow tie. The bow is formed and sewn by hand once and for all, so the silhouette is identical from the first wearing to the last.

An adjustable neckband closes behind the shirt collar and fits every collar size. Nothing to tie in front of a mirror, and no bow that loosens halfway through dinner.

Three shapes: L’Intemporel, Le Plongeant, Le Dare in Paris

L’Intemporel is the classic butterfly in silk satin, 6.5 cm high, in black, midnight blue or off white: the bow of the dinner jacket and of black tie dinners.

Le Plongeant is longer and pointed, a diamond point shape with plunging tips. Piqué silk for ceremonies; printed silks with polka dots, paisley or plain colors for weddings.

Le Dare in Paris is the signature shape, 9.5 cm, in woven silk or artisanal silk with a deep matte grain.

Which bow tie for black tie, a wedding or a dinner?

For a daytime wedding, Le Plongeant in printed silk, polka dots or paisley, sits well with a light suit. A bow tie for a wedding in a plain color suits a darker suit.

For an evening reception or a black tie dress code, black remains the rule: L’Intemporel in silk satin, or Le Dare in Paris in woven silk for a matte contrast. Off white is reserved for white tie.

Frequently asked questions about silk bow ties

How do you tie a bow tie?

You do not need to. Dare in Paris bow ties are pre-tied and adjustable: the bow is already formed and sewn by hand, so there is nothing to tie. Adjust the neckband to your collar size, then close it behind the shirt collar.

To tie a classic bow tie yourself, see our guide how to tie a bow tie.

Pre-tied bow tie or a bow tie you tie yourself: what is the difference?

A pre-tied bow tie is formed and sewn once and for all by the tie maker: the silhouette is the same from the first wearing to the last, and the adjustable neckband fits every collar size.

A bow tie you tie yourself is retied each time, with a slightly different fall every evening. Dare in Paris chose the adjustable pre-tied bow tie, assembled by hand, for the same hold all night.

Which bow tie do you wear with a dinner jacket?

A dinner jacket, or tuxedo, calls for black. L’Intemporel in silk satin answers the satin of the lapels; Le Dare in Paris in woven silk brings a more contemporary matte contrast. Off white is reserved for white tie. Choose a wing collar or a modest spread, and avoid any shine other than silk.

How do you care for a silk bow tie?

Silk does not go in the washing machine and reacts badly to water: a drop leaves a ring as it dries. Store the bow tie flat, away from direct light, and leave any stain to a professional dry cleaner.

If a crease persists, hold a garment steamer about ten centimeters (four inches) from the silk, and never place an iron directly on it.
