All the craft of the atelier shows here, and with it the rarity of our collections :

- wide and narrow blades hand rolled : each of our pieces is unique ;

- made of 100% ancient madder silk, printed in the Lake Como region of Italy ;

- collar stitch, la piqûre col, holding the tie in place once the shirt collar is folded down over it ;

- bar tack, le bourdon, chain twisted on itself in pearled pure silk thread, thrown in France ;

- total length ≃ 58 in (147 cm)

- wide blade width ≃ 3.1 in (8 cm)

Olive green tie in ancient madder silk, seven fold

Your olive green tie is a seven fold : neither lined nor interlined, it is folded seven times from a single square of silk. It is among the lightest ties there are, and the most comfortable to wear.

The colours : olive green with orange squares, printed on ancient madder silk by Fermo Fossati, near Lake Como.

The story of madder silk

Ancient madder silk takes its name from madder root, Rubia tinctorum, whose deep red was used to dye textiles for centuries. Madder silk is known for its rich colour and subtle nuances, for its durability and its characteristic lustre. Purists prize above all its peach-skin hand.

How do I knot my tie? Which knot should I go for?

It is probably the most interesting question, and the answer is yours to find. We can only give a few pointers.

Silk has some natural give, which makes it very pleasant in the hand and easy to knot.

For the photographs we chose the four-in-hand, as on every tie of the house. A seven fold, being unlined, takes a double knot better than a lined tie does, but we still find the Windsor heavy : a large knot by nature, a lot of cloth, a thick result. The half Windsor, close to the four-in-hand, is an option.

Good to know : for the proportions, we also advise against a double knot with a narrow collar. Prefer a wide Italian spread, and a collar band taller than 1 in (2.5 cm), to show off the knot and the tie.

Bonus : the knot shows your creative side, the mood of the moment, the care and the passion you put into it.

How do I wear my tie in a more relaxed, natural way?

Once your tie is knotted, you can leave the narrow blade outside the wide one. Or let it slip out as the knot forms, for a look that is more relaxed and no less elegant.

What do I wear my olive green tie with?

With a dark or a light suit, and a white or pink shirt, plain or patterned : madder's muted tones sit with almost everything. Above all, enjoy yourself.
