A three fold tie by Dare in Paris is traced, cut and sewn by hand in our Paris workshop, holder of the Fabriqué à Paris label, the official Made in Paris label. A wool based interlining runs the whole length, both ends are tipped by hand, and a bar tack holds the folds. Grenadine, woven silk, printed twill or ancient madder, with exclusive motifs drawn in Paris: the classic construction, for the office as for a wedding, worn by men and women alike.
A three fold tie is the classic construction: the silk is folded three times around an interlining, then closed by hand along the back with a slip stitch. The interlining gives the tie its body and its hold; the silk gives it its surface and its thickness.
Dare in Paris three fold ties are cut from a 100% silk shell woven in the Lake Como region of Italy, about 147 cm (58 inches) long, with a blade about 8 cm (3.15 inches) wide.
Every three fold tie is traced, cut and sewn by hand in our Paris workshop, holder of the Fabriqué à Paris label, the official Made in Paris label. The motifs are exclusive and drawn in Paris; the silk is woven in the Lake Como region of Italy.
Each tie leaves the workshop in its box, sealed with the house’s wax seal, with a handwritten note.
A wool based interlining runs the whole length of the tie, from the blade to the tail, and gives it a clean, structured fall.
Both ends are tipped by hand: a lining sewn inside the tips of the blade and the tail. A bar tack, the hand stitch at the back, holds the folds together; a keeper loop holds the tail behind the blade; the collar stitch keeps the tie in place under the collar.
The three fold tie takes every knot: four-in-hand for a narrow, slightly asymmetrical knot, half Windsor or Windsor for a fuller, symmetrical one with a spread collar.
The dimple, the small fold under the knot, forms only on a well made tie. Pinch the blade just under the knot as you tighten it, and it stays in place.
At the office, a plain grenadine or a small motif; for a wedding, a printed twill or an ancient madder. If the dress code calls for black tie, our silk bow ties, pre-tied and adjustable, take over.
The thickness of a tie comes from the silk, not from the number of folds. A three fold in woven silk, grenadine above all, is the thickest tie in the collection; a three fold in printed twill is lighter.
Grenadine is a woven silk with an open, almost knitted weave and a raised, matte grain: plain ties of great depth, easy to knot. Ancient madder is a printed silk with a soft, matte surface.
Two constructions, not two grades. The three fold, sewn in Paris, has a wool based interlining along its whole length and both ends tipped by hand: a clean, structured fall for every day. The seven fold tie, sewn in Italy, is a single square of silk folded seven times without interlining: softer, lighter, with a full knot. Both are on our silk ties page.
Not necessarily. The thickness comes from the silk, woven or printed, not from the number of folds: a three fold in woven grenadine is the thickest tie in the collection, a three fold in printed twill is lighter.
Fabriqué à Paris is the official Made in Paris label. Our Paris workshop holds it: the house’s three fold ties and bow ties are cut and sewn there by hand, and the hems of its silk squares are rolled there by hand.
About 147 cm (58 inches), with a blade about 8 cm (3.15 inches) wide, in a 100% silk shell. The length suits every knot, from the four-in-hand to the Windsor.
Silk does not go in the washing machine and reacts badly to water: a drop leaves a ring as it dries. Store the tie flat or rolled, away from direct light, and leave any stain to a professional dry cleaner.
If a crease persists, hold a garment steamer about ten centimeters (four inches) from the silk, and never place an iron directly on it.
